Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill

Kathi's last play of the season opens tonight at the Rep. Lady Day is a play about Billie Holiday. It takes place about 4 months before her death at one of her final concerts at a small bar in Philly. She tells storys of her life and career. Regina Marie Williams plays Billie and she's pretty amazing. Will Knowles (who was the piano man in the Duke Ellington musical that I did last spring) is back tickling the ivories. It's a great play, sad with adult themes and language, but a great play. Susannah Barnes who is a painter at the Rep designed the set and she did an amazing job of making the set blend right in to the Cabaret space - we have already had people ask why we don't use the back wall of the Cabaret more often!! Pete's last show of the season (String of Pearls) opens next weekend and then it's all downhill to summer vacation!
