The grandure of Zion National Park was a huge culture shock after the over-stimulation of Vegas. We got to the park mid-afternoon and were actually able to camp inside the park. The view from our site is of a big rock formation called the Sentinel. The park is as beautiful as I remember it and Pete loved it.
In an effort to protect the nature of the park, they have cut down on the amount of individual traffic allowed in the park. You can only drive in so far and then you have to take a shuttle to all other parts of the park. For us it was perfect. Our campsite was about a 2 minute walk to the shuttle and after setting up camp, we spent the rest of the afternoon/evening exploring the park, getting on and off of the shuttle for the things we wanted to see.
We took a short hike up to weaping rock and listened to 400 year old water drizzling down the mountain. The whole park is beautiful After the calming effect of the park, we went back to the site, had dinner, played some cards and headed off to bed. Once again we left the rain fly off and went to sleep staring at an unbelievable number of stars.
